The Nigerian Senate achieved a legislative milestone with the successful passage of a major education bill. This new law establishes compulsory participation for every child nationwide in three fundamental national examinations .
These three assessments are now mandatory for all students:
- The National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE).
- The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
- The Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Further Legislative Action on Education
In parallel action, the Senate gave its approval to two supplementary bills. These measures are designed to formally recognize and grow specific areas of professional development and learning:
- National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies: A bill was passed to formally create this new national academic board.
- Chartered Institute of Training and Development of Nigeria: The Senate also approved legislation to legally incorporate this professional institute.
