Iran Threatens to Label European Union Militaries as “Terrorist” Entities

EUROPEAN

In a sharp escalation of diplomatic tensions, Iranian officials have announced plans to formally designate the armed forces of European Union (EU) nations as “terrorist organizations.” This move serves as a direct retaliatory measure against EU countries that have moved to blacklist the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

A Reciprocal Security Policy

Ali Larijani, a prominent Iranian security official, disclosed the strategy via a social media post on X. The proposed designation would effectively mirror the legal labels placed on Iranian state institutions by European governments.

“The consequences will fall on the European countries that undertook such an action,” Larijani warned, emphasizing that Iran’s response is a direct reaction to Western foreign policy decisions.

Key Takeaways of the Designation

If implemented, this policy would represent a significant shift in how Tehran interacts with European defense forces. The implications of this move include:

  • Legal Reciprocity: Iran aims to match the “terrorist” label used by the EU, creating a symmetrical diplomatic standoff.

  • Security Consequences: Official statements suggest that European nations will be held responsible for any regional friction resulting from these designations.

  • Military Standoff: Labeling national militaries as terrorist entities could complicate maritime security and international cooperation in the Middle East.
