The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Plc has officially announced a significant power outage across several parts of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The disruption, which began on Monday, January 19, 2026, is attributed to a critical fault identified on one of the utility’s major power transformers.

In a formal statement released to the public, the company confirmed that the technical failure has impacted numerous feeders and disrupted the daily operations of both commercial and residential consumers within the region.

Impact on Industrial and Media Hubs

The outage has specifically targeted major industrial zones and media houses, leading to an immediate suspension of regular services for several high-profile organizations. Key entities experiencing supply interruptions include:

  • Media Outlets: Fresh FM Station and Splash FM.
  • Industrial Plants: Eagle Flour Company, Frigoglass Company, Bev Pack Company, and Lina Oil Company.
  • Commercial Centers: Genesis Event Centre and various businesses in the Adelabu Market.

Affected Feeders and Neighborhoods

The transformer fault has neutralized several feeders within the Ibadan power network. Specifically, the feeders currently out of service include Lina, Best Oil, Frigoglass, Backhorse, Altak, Aramed, BAT/New Age, Eagle, Challenge, Odò Ona, Boluwaji, Soka, Podo (11kV), and ROM (33kV).

Consequently, residents in the following communities are currently without electricity:

  • Primary Estates: Felele Estate, Challenge, and Sanyo.
  • Residential Areas: Odò Ona, Odò Ona Kékéré, Ologede, Alomaja, Arapaja, Bare, Oloola, Alata, Ìdì Ayùnrẹ́, Soka, and Ido Mango.
  • Suburban Hubs: Boluwaji, Podo, Asipa, Oleyo, Ayegun, Idi Oya, Tipper Garage, and Eyini.

Technical Response and Restoration Efforts

IBEDC has mobilized its technical emergency team to address the transformer fault. The company stated that repairs are currently underway to ensure that power is restored to the affected grids as quickly as possible.

The utility provider expressed sincere apologies for the downtime, acknowledging the significant inconvenience this incident has caused for both residential households and the local business community
