The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has lauded Marconi. NG EPC Limited.
The Board praised the company for its steadfast commitment to implementing Nigeria’s local content policies.
In a statement released on Friday, the Board noted that the oil and gas servicing company is becoming a leading force in the West African energy sector.
Dr. Obinna Ezeobi is the NCDMB General Manager for Corporate Communications. He highlighted that the company has “pledged cost-competitive and speedy delivery of projects and opportunities.”
A Massive Acquisition
The company made this commitment on Wednesday. This occurred during a media tour of select oil and gas facilities in Port Harcourt, organized by the NCDMB.
Marconi is a wholly Nigerian entity. In May 2025, it significantly expanded its operations by acquiring the assets of Saipem Contracting Nigeria’s Rumuolumeni Yard.
Mr. Gian Fabio Del Cioppo, the Chief Executive Officer of Marconi, detailed the scale of the new facility during the tour.
He explained that the yard spans over 1,000,000 square metres. It also features a 330-metre jetty, providing critical access for maritime logistics.
Capacity for Complex Projects
Mr. Cioppo emphasized the company’s industrial strength.
“Marconi has the capacity to fabricate over 25,000 tonnes of heavy structures per year,” he stated.
He described the facility as one of the leading yards in the country. He assured stakeholders that Marconi has the assets and organizational capability to execute complex capital EPC projects, both onshore and offshore.
Commitment to Local Content
The CEO reaffirmed Marconi’s alignment with the Presidential Directives on Local Content. He also cited the provisions of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, 2010.
Cioppo urged the government and industry stakeholders to remain steadfast. He warned against pressures to roll back the progress achieved over the last 15 years.
Retaining Expertise and Past Success
Dr. David Editang, the Nigerian Content Manager of Marconi, conducted journalists around the facility. He noted that the transition has been seamless.
The new owners retained the services of local experts who operated the yard for decades prior to the acquisition.
The yard has a storied history. It played a role in executing major projects, including:
- Egina
- Usan
- Akpo
- Train 7
Recently, Marconi marked a new milestone. The company held a First Steel Cutting Ceremony for subsea structures destined for a major offshore project currently underway in Nigeria.
NCDMB’s Strategic Mandate
Dr. Ezeobi noted that Marconi is now equipped to operate across the entire value chain. This ranges from land and swamp to deep-sea offshore environments.
He explained the rationale behind the media tour.
“As we showcase the companies, we are achieving our mandate as set out in Sections 67 and 70(n) of the NOGICD Act,” Ezeobi stated.
He explained that these sections mandate the Board to promote Nigerian Content through stakeholder engagement.
“We want the media to better understand how the oil and gas industry works… and to build the capacity of media stakeholders in reportage,” he concluded.
