The Nigerian government has partnered with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) to professionalize human resources in the civil service under the new Nigeria HR reform. The initiative was unveiled on October 7, 2025, in Abuja.
Raising HR Standards
Head of the Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, said the reform aligns with global HR practices to improve efficiency and transparency in public institutions.
Certification Now Mandatory
From January 2026, only certified HR professionals will hold directorate-level roles. Civil servants must start CIPM certification within 12 months as part of the reform’s competency framework.
CIPM’s Role
CIPM will oversee training and accreditation. Its president, Ahmed Gobir, called the move “a turning point for public service,” pledging to promote ethical and professional HR management.
Driving Accountability
The Nigeria HR reform aims to build skilled, accountable officers and enhance performance across ministries, ensuring a more competent and transparent civil service.
