Tunisia has earned a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, thanks to a thrilling last-minute goal by Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane against Equatorial Guinea.
Tunisia’s Exciting Win
On September 8, 2025, in Malabo, substitute Firas Chaouat passed to Ben Romdhane, who scored in the fourth minute of extra time.
The 1-0 win sent Tunisian players and fans into wild celebration. Tunisia leads Group H with 22 points from eight games, 10 points ahead of Namibia, who have one game left.
The team has not let in a single goal in qualifying. This is Tunisia’s seventh World Cup trip and third in a row, after exiting the group stage in 2018 and 2022.
Group H Updates
In another Group H match, Malawi fought back from two goals down to tie Liberia 2-2. Gabadinho Mhango scored in the 72nd minute, and Chawanangwa Kaonga added a goal in the 80th minute.
Group G Action
Algeria tops Group G with 19 points after a 0-0 draw with Guinea. Uganda stayed close, beating Somalia 2-0 to reach 16 points, the same as Mozambique, who also won 2-0 against Botswana. Algeria needs just three more points to qualify, with games against Somalia and Uganda next.
Other Qualifying Matches
In Group I, Madagascar beat Chad 3-1, earning 16 points and sitting second behind Ghana, who won 1-0 against Mali in Accra.
Morocco, already qualified, kept a perfect record in Group E with a 2-0 win over Zambia, securing seven straight victories.
Guinea-Bissau defeated Djibouti 2-0, while Libya’s 2-0 win over Eswatini in Group D gave them 14 points, two behind Cape Verde, who have a game in hand.

Up to nine African teams could make the 48-team tournament. Algeria, Ghana, and others are in strong positions, promising more exciting matches ahead.
