Charles Leclerc delivered a stunning performance at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, finishing just over five seconds ahead of teammate Carlos Sainz. The victory marked Ferrari’s first Formula 1 win since the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix, ending a drought that had stretched for more than two years.
Hamilton on the Podium, Verstappen Retires
Lewis Hamilton, driving for Mercedes, secured third place after starting from fifth on the grid. Meanwhile, reigning world champion Max Verstappen was forced to retire just three laps from the finish due to engine trouble, losing valuable points in the season opener.
Leclerc’s Career Milestone
The 24-year-old Monaco native celebrated his third career victory, earning 25 points for his triumph along with an additional point for the fastest lap. Sainz’s second-place finish added 18 points to Ferrari’s tally, while Hamilton walked away with 15 points.
“It is only the beginning, it’s now time to work harder than ever to stay there,” Leclerc wrote on social media after the race.
Title Race Heats Up
The result has reignited Ferrari’s hopes of reclaiming the Constructors’ Championship, a title they last held in 2008. Mercedes, who have dominated the sport in recent years with drivers like Nico Rosberg, Valtteri Bottas, and Hamilton, now face renewed competition from the resurgent Italian team.
