Netflix Appoints African Business Leader Strive Masiyiwa to Its Board

Netflix, Inc. has announced the appointment of prominent African entrepreneur Strive Masiyiwa, the Chairman and founder of Econet Group, to its Board of Directors.

The appointment was disclosed in an official press release published on the company’s website, highlighting Netflix’s ongoing commitment to global diversity and strategic leadership.

Netflix Welcomes Masiyiwa’s Visionary Leadership

Netflix Co-founder, Chairman, and Co-CEO Reed Hastings expressed enthusiasm about the new addition to the board, stating:

Who Is Strive Masiyiwa?

Strive Masiyiwa is a globally recognized telecoms and tech pioneer.

He is the founder and executive chairman of Econet Group, which operates in the telecommunications and digital services space across 29 countries in Africa and Europe.

In addition to leading Econet, Masiyiwa holds positions on various international boards, including:

  • Unilever Plc
  • National Geographic Society
  • Asia Society
  • Bank of America Global Advisory Board
  • Council on Foreign Relations (US)
  • Stanford University Global Advisory Board
  • Prince of Wales Trust for Africa
  • Committee on Conscience, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum

He also served on the Rockefeller Foundation Board for 15 years and is the Chairman Emeritus of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). Currently, he plays a key role as the African Union’s Special Envoy on COVID-19 response.

Masiyiwa, who is based in London, is widely regarded as one of Africa’s leading business figures and philanthropists.
