Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed a summons from the EFCC. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has invited the former Minister of Justice for questioning.
Malami released a statement on Friday via social media. He assured the public of his readiness to cooperate with the anti-graft agency.
“I Will Honor the Invitation”
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria views this as an opportunity. He wants to demonstrate his commitment to accountability. Malami emphasized that he has no hesitation in appearing before the commission.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC,” Malami stated. “I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation.”
Furthermore, he explained his decision to make the invitation public. He stated that it aligns with his principles of transparency and responsible governance.
“I understand the spirit of accountability,” he added. Malami promised to keep the public updated as events unfold.
A High-Profile Tenure
Malami served as the nation’s chief law officer for eight years. His tenure spanned from 2015 to 2023 under the previous administration.
Significant legal milestones marked his time in office. These included major asset recovery initiatives and anti-corruption reforms.
However, his tenure also attracted scrutiny. Malami oversaw complex arbitration disputes and financial crime cases.
Towards the end of his service, he faced questions regarding asset declarations. Critics also raised concerns about the management of recovered funds. Nevertheless, Malami has consistently denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
Currently, the specific reasons for the invitation remain undisclosed. The EFCC has not released official details regarding the scope of the inquiry
