President Bola Tinubu has ordered a massive security crackdown in Kwara State. He directed security agencies to establish a “total security cordon” around the state’s forests.
This directive follows a recent surge in kidnappings. The President wants to flush out terrorists hiding in the dense foliage.
24-Hour Air Surveillance
To achieve this, the President has tasked the Nigerian Air Force. They must expand operations into the innermost parts of the forests.
The mandate requires 24-hour aerial surveillance. Furthermore, these air operations must link up directly with ground forces. This synchronization aims to eliminate hiding spots for criminals.
Expanding the Dragnet
The operation extends beyond Kwara. The order also covers the Kebbi and Niger States axis.
Recent Attacks Trigger Action
This decisive move comes after a series of attacks. Recently, 38 churchgoers were abducted in Eruku.
The violence continued on Monday evening. Gunmen reportedly kidnapped at least 10 residents in Isapa, a community in the Ekiti Local Government Area.
Call for Community Intel
Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, released the statement. He urged communities to help the security forces.
Residents should provide timely information about strange movements. This intelligence is vital to aid the work of the troops on the ground.
