CARICOM in London: Demands Full UK Slavery Reparations Now

CARICOM

A powerful delegation from the 15-nation Caribbean Community (CARICOM) touched down in the UK this week (17–20 November 2025) for high-level talks that could reshape the reparations debate forever.

This is not about polite conversation. Caribbean leaders are presenting Britain with a detailed, non-negotiable justice plan that goes far beyond words.

What the Caribbean Wants

  • An official apology that actually names the crime of enslaving millions of Africans
  • Total cancellation of debts that trace back to colonial exploitation
  • Major funding to fight chronic illnesses (especially diabetes) rooted in the brutality of plantation life
  • Investment in education, research centres, and the rebuilding of erased African-Caribbean history

Britain Still Doesn’t Know Its Own History

Recent polls reveal a shocking truth:

  • 85% of Britons have no idea their country shipped more than 3 million enslaved Africans across the Atlantic
  • 89% are unaware British slavery in the Caribbean lasted over 300 years

Yet public opinion is shifting fast 63% now say the UK should formally apologise.

Prime Minister Starmer Says “Look Forward, Not Back”

Keir Starmer has made it clear he does not want to talk reparations. Caribbean leaders say looking forward is impossible while the damage of the past still bleeds into the present.

Africa Joins the Fight

The African Union has declared 2025 the “Year of Justice Through Reparations” and is building its own continent-wide demand. The AU and CARICOM are now working in lockstep, pushing for:

  • Real changes to global finance rules
  • More African and Caribbean seats at the world’s top tables
  • A complete rethink of who owes whom

This week in London is more than a diplomatic visit — it’s the moment the Caribbean and Africa told Britain the bill for centuries of theft has finally come due.
