Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, arrived at the head of a formidable delegation. This group included the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency. Senior military operations staff also attended.
Their presence at BAMEX 2025, an event dedicated to fostering security collaboration across Africa, was a clear milestone. In effect, it declared Nigeria’s stake in regional stability.

The mission’s central event was a courtesy visit to Mali’s Prime Minister, General Abdoulaye Maiga.

The Nigerian Minister conveyed warm greetings directly from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In addition, he stressed the immense strategic value of the relationship, noting that Nigeria views Mali as a crucial ally.
Badaru was quoted, stating, “Nigeria is committed to deepening our ties and working closely with Mali to tackle challenges that threaten peace in our region.” Ultimately, he made it clear that their shared security interests place defense collaboration at the top of both nations’ priority lists.

Prime Minister Maiga immediately reciprocated the gesture. Specifically, he expressed deep gratitude for Nigeria’s significant participation in the exhibition. He called it a “testament to our enduring friendship and mutual respect.”
Maiga directly acknowledged the severe security issues currently plaguing his nation. Therefore, he stressed, “The Government of Mali values Nigeria’s ongoing support and partnership, especially as we confront various security issues together.”
Furthermore, he emphasized that regional unity remains absolutely vital. This unity is for protecting nations from both current and future threats. Maiga also praised BAMEX 2025 as an “essential platform for the exchange of ideas and innovations.” He argued it is critical for building robust security structures across the continent.
As the defense exhibition concluded, the high-level meeting delivered a clear signal. Nigeria and Mali have pledged a renewed determination. They vow to combine their resources and shared experiences. This will enhance security and stability, reinforcing the frontline against instability in West Africa.
