A wave of intense worry quickly spread through the White House on Thursday. An unexpected collapse occurred right beside U.S. President Donald Trump as he was delivering an official speech. The frightening incident happened while the President discussed a new proposal aimed at lowering the cost of obesity medications.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the identity of the individual. The person represented one of the healthcare companies involved in the announcement. The guest lost consciousness while standing near the presidential desk, just as CEO David Ricks was speaking.
The Collapse and Swift Action
Attendees witnessed the individual, who was standing with administration officials and industry executives, suddenly faint. People nearby quickly and carefully assisted the person to the floor.
“You OK?” Ricks immediately called out when the collapse happened. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz and others quickly rushed over to provide assistance.
President Trump emerged from behind the Resolute Desk as members of the press were promptly escorted out. Leavitt later confirmed the guest received immediate medical care and was reported to be “doing fine.”
When journalists returned, President Trump spoke directly about the event. He provided reassurance, saying: “You saw he went down. And he’s fine. They just sent him out. He’s got doctors’ care. But he’s fine.”
The event, which had been in progress for about 30 minutes, paused momentarily because of the health scare.
This marks the second fainting incident at the White House this year; a young girl had collapsed during a swearing-in ceremony in April but recovered quickly.
