Tottenham Hotspur has confirmed it is rallying around its young Italian international defender, Destiny Udogie, and his entire family. The club is providing full support following a shocking incident in London where the 22-year-old player was allegedly threatened with a gun.
London police have since arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the frightening incident, which took place in September. He has been released on bail while official inquiries proceed.
A Tottenham spokesperson issued a brief but firm statement on Tuesday: “We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further.”
The Frightening Incident Unfolds
Police first received a distress call late in the evening on September 6. The report detailed that a man in his 20s had been threatened with a gun in a North London suburb.
This area is widely known for being a residential choice for players from both the Tottenham and Arsenal squads.
A police spokesman provided further details as the investigation deepened:
- Second Victim: Officers initially spoke with Udogie, the first victim. However, during their investigation, a second man in his 20s also reported similar trauma. He had allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual.
- Safety Confirmed: Authorities confirmed that thankfully, no physical injuries were reported in either incident.
- The Arrest: A 31-year-old man was apprehended on Monday, September 8. He faces severe charges, including suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail, and driving without a licence.
Despite the serious nature of the alleged off-field trauma, Udogie demonstrated remarkable composure.
He was in the starting lineup for Tottenham’s Champions League home match on Tuesday, where the team secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Copenhagen.
