The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has finalized training plans for the national squad. The Super Eagles will begin their crucial preparatory camp on Sunday, November 9, in Rabat, Morocco.
This camp marks the final push for the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup (Africa playoffs).
Four-Team Mini-Tournament Determines Final Hope
Four national teams are vying for Africa’s single slot in the inter-confederation tournament. Nigeria, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), and Gabon will compete in a condensed mini-tournament. The event runs from November 13 to 16. The team that emerges victorious will secure a spot in the inter-continental playoffs, which take place in Mexico in March 2026.
The pairings for the knockout phase were determined by FIFA rankings released in mid-October:
- Semi-final 1: Nigeria vs. Gabon (The Panthers)
- Semi-final 2: Cameroon vs. DR Congo
The winner of the Nigeria-Gabon clash will proceed to face the winner of the second semi-final. Nine African nations have already secured direct qualification to the 2026 World Cup.
Tournament Schedule and Venue Uncertainty
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued the full schedule for the decisive tournament:
- Semi-finals: Thursday, November 13
- Final: Sunday, November 16. This match will be held at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex.
The Super Eagles’ initial match against Gabon will be held in Rabat. The exact venue for that semi-final remains unconfirmed. Options include the 18,000-capacity El-Barid Stadium or the 22,000-capacity Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex. The NFF noted that CAF will hold a draw to determine the final venue allocation for each semi-final.
NFF Leadership Backs Team Spirit
NFF president Ibrahim Gusau expressed strong confidence in the team’s readiness. He affirmed that the NFF and the National Sports Commission are ensuring full preparation.
“No stone will be left unturned,” Gusau declared. He believes the “special spirit” that led the team to score the required goals against Benin Republic in the final qualifier will power them through the playoffs.
Gusau highlighted the commitment of the players and staff. The early camp opening in Rabat ensures maximum preparation time. He concluded that the shared goal of playing in the FIFA World Cup finals provides strong motivation for every player.
