Reports from the Italian media suggest that top striker Victor Osimhen is campaigning for his club, Galatasaray, to sign his Nigerian national teammate, Ademola Lookman, from Atalanta.
The Turkish giants are keen to reinforce their forward options. This move becomes more strategic amid talks that winger Barış Alper Yılmaz may leave in the upcoming January transfer window.
Osimhen’s Direct Appeal to Lookman
Osimhen, who holds the title of reigning African Player of the Year, is reportedly playing a central role in this potential transfer negotiation.
According to accounts in the Italian press, he has personally contacted Lookman, his friend and fellow international player. Osimhen’s direct appeal to the dynamic forward was clear: “Come to Galatasaray and be happy here!”
Lookman Seeking Exit Amid Club Dispute
Lookman’s current situation at Atalanta is strained, impacting his playing time this season. He is reportedly facing struggles following a falling out with the club’s hierarchy.
This dispute reportedly originated from a collapsed summer transfer that would have sent him to Inter Milan. Consequently, the 28-year-old is said to be ready to make the switch to the Turkish champions, provided the two clubs can finalize an agreement.
The issues began when Lookman staged a brief strike over the summer, which temporarily led to him being excluded from the team. He was eventually brought back into the squad.
His return included a four-minute substitute appearance during a 3-0 victory against Torino in September. He secured his first start days later in a Champions League match against Club Brugge.
Goal Scoring Return Highlights Talent
The Nigerian forward recently broke his goal-scoring silence for the 2025/26 season. He netted a goal during Atalanta’s Serie A match-day nine game at home against AC Milan on Tuesday night.
Lookman scored in the 35th minute to equalize the score at 1-1, after the visiting side had scored early. His magnificent shot, which found the top of the net, came after receiving a pass from Mario Pasalic. This goal was scored in only his seventh appearance for Atalanta this season across all competitions.
Last season, Lookman was exceptionally productive for the club. He scored 15 goals and provided five assists in the domestic league. Furthermore, he contributed five goals and two assists during their Champions League campaign.
