President Bola Tinubu has honored the memory of Dr. Christopher Kolade, who passed away at the age of 92, describing him as a symbol of integrity, patriotism, and leadership.

In a statement released on October 9, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow, calling Kolade “a national treasure.” The Christopher Kolade tribute celebrated his distinguished career as a diplomat, broadcaster, and business leader.

Distinguished Leadership and Service

Kolade’s professional journey spanned decades—from serving as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom to heading the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation. He also led Cadbury Nigeria Plc, where he earned praise for promoting ethical leadership and transparency in business.

Humanitarian and Educational Contributions

Through the Christopher Kolade Foundation, he supported leadership development, education, and healthcare for vulnerable Nigerians, including sickle cell patients. Tinubu highlighted that Kolade “lived for impact, not wealth,” leaving a legacy of compassion and discipline.

Roots and Recognition

Born on December 28, 1932, in Erin-Oke, Osun State, Kolade was the son of an Anglican missionary. His educational journey took him through Government College, Ibadan, and Fourah Bay College, Sierra Leone.

Oba Ayodeji Akintola, the Alua of Erin-Oke, described his passing as a huge loss to the community, noting his unwavering commitment to local development.

Family and National Impact

Announcing his peaceful passing on October 8, Kolade’s family expressed gratitude for his faith-driven life and national service.

Beyond diplomacy, he chaired the SURE-P program and lectured at the Lagos Business School, mentoring future leaders. His global reputation brought pride to Nigeria and his hometown of Erin-Oke.

Tinubu’s Final Reflection

President Tinubu praised Kolade’s “selfless and resilient spirit,” praying for his eternal rest. The Christopher Kolade tribute stands as a testament to a man whose integrity and leadership continue to inspire Nigeria’s moral and professional standards.
