Brazilian soccer icon Ronaldo has urged coach Carlo Ancelotti to include Neymar in the national team for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Speaking at a Sao Paulo event, Ronaldo called Neymar vital for Brazil’s success.
Neymar’s Absence
Neymar, Brazil’s top scorer with 79 goals in 128 matches, hasn’t played for the Selecao since a severe knee injury in October 2023.
Now 33, he’s been active with Santos since January 2025, after a brief stint at Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Ronaldo’s Case
“Neymar is one of a kind for Brazil,” said Ronaldo, a two-time World Cup winner.
“With him, our chances soar.”
The 49-year-old, who netted 62 goals in 99 games for Brazil, believes Neymar’s presence is key to better results.
Injury Challenges
Neymar’s career has been hit by injuries, including a cruciate ligament tear during a 2023 match against Uruguay.
After joining Al Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain, he played only five games, scoring once, before a year-long recovery. He left Al Hilal after two more matches to rejoin Santos.
Ancelotti’s Stance
Ancelotti, who has coached four matches without calling up Neymar, said in September 2025 that Neymar needs better fitness to contribute to Brazil’s World Cup campaign.

Ronaldo’s call reflects fans’ hopes for Neymar’s return, seeing him as a game-changer for the Selecao’s quest for glory in 2026.
