Director’s Rare Access
Starting as a teenager, Ballesteros earned Ye’s trust, filming 12 to 18 hours daily. He captured everything from intimate family moments to high-profile encounters with figures like Elon Musk.
“Ye let me keep rolling,” Ballesteros said. “We aimed to craft a truthful narrative, no matter where it led.”
Capturing Light and Shadow
Ye urged Ballesteros to show both his successes and struggles. Drawing inspiration from films like There Will Be Blood and The Aviator, the director wove a story about genius, fame, and America’s obsession with idols. “It’s about questioning celebrity worship, not judging Ye,” he noted.
Emotional Screening Moment
At a private viewing in Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont, Ye saw an early version. “It was like reliving his life,” Ballesteros recalled.
