Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will officially swear in 57 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on September 29, 2025.
The induction will take place at 10 a.m. inside the main courtroom of the Supreme Court in Abuja, marking the start of the 2025/2026 legal year.
Judiciary Review and Keynote Address
According to Dr. Festus Akande, the court’s director of information, the Chief Justice will deliver a detailed address during the event. Her remarks will highlight the Supreme Court’s performance as well as the wider judiciary’s achievements in the 2024/2025 legal year.
Contributions from Legal Leaders
The ceremony will also feature speeches from leading stakeholders in Nigeria’s justice sector. These include:
- The Attorney General of the Federation
- The head of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria
- The president of the Nigerian Bar Association
Their discussions will focus on the state of the nation’s legal system and strategies to strengthen access to justice.

The Supreme Court ended its annual recess on July 21, 2025, after what officials described as a highly productive legal year.
This upcoming swearing-in ceremony not only ushers in the new legal year but also reaffirms the judiciary’s role in upholding fairness, accountability, and the rule of law in Nigeria.
