On September 19, 2025, Nigeria unveiled a program to help South-South youth access funds for agribusiness.
This effort aims to spark their interest in farming and strengthen food security across the country. It kicks off in Akwa Ibom, a key state in the region.
Launch Event in Uyo
Howard Usen, South-South Coordinator for the Nigerian Agribusiness and Agro-Industry Development Initiative (NAADI), spoke at the launch in Uyo.
He called it a game-changer. Many groups miss funding due to weak organization, he said. NAADI plans to fix this with clear rules.
Building Strong Systems
Usen shared NAADI’s goals:
- Partner with agricultural communities to set global standards.
- Create strong governance for better funding access.
- Work with expos and trainers to skill up local leaders.
“Strong systems make it easier for investors to trust you,” he noted.
Training and Loan Access
Youth will get training in cooperative management and financial skills, meeting UN standards.
Obinna Inyiama from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Uyo branch highlighted a loan program. It offers up to ₦1 million per young farmer, with the CBN covering 75% of the risk.
State Backing in Akwa Ibom
Dr. Offiong Offor, Akwa Ibom’s Agriculture Commissioner, praised the program.
She promised ongoing support, like better seeds, under Governor Umo Eno’s food security plan. This will help young farmers thrive.
A Bright Future
Sylvester Sunday, the new youth leader, vowed to inspire Akwa Ibom’s youth to farm. With loans, training, and state aid, this program could unlock the region’s agricultural potential.
