  • Notable Performances: The 2022 season features standout players like Ater James Majok (US Monastir), who led in rebounding, and Adonis Filer (REG), who set a BAL record with 16 assists in a single game.

Leadership Perspectives

BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall expressed enthusiasm for the season, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome seven new teams and four new countries into the second season of the BAL. The competition is heating up, and we’re excited for fans to experience it live in three world-class African cities.” FIBA Africa and BAL Board President Anibal Manave added, “The Road to BAL 2022 provided exciting action, and we’re optimistic this expanded season will be a huge success.

Context and Significance

The 2022 BAL season builds on the success of the inaugural 2021 season, where Zamalek defeated US Monastir 76-63 to claim the title in Kigali. The expansion to 38 games across three cities (Dakar, Cairo, and Kigali) marks a significant growth from the 26-game, single-venue format in 2021, necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The BAL, a partnership between FIBA and the NBA, continues to elevate African basketball, showcasing talent and fostering development across the continent.
