Luke Phibion Masamvu, the former Member of Parliament for Mutasa North constituency in Zimbabwe, has died from COVID-19. The 62-year-old businessman and politician passed away on Saturday, January 30.
Masamvu, widely known for his entrepreneurial ventures in Marondera, Bindura, and Manicaland Province, leaves behind 79 children and 12 wives.
Family and Political Tributes
Family spokesperson and brother, John Masamvu, told state media the loss had deeply affected them.
“It is a very sad day for the entire Masamvu family. We have lost a big family man who also served his country in Parliament,” John said.
Zanu PF politician and Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Tinoda Machakaire, also expressed his condolences.
“I was really saddened to learn of the untimely passing on of the former Honourable MP and businessman Cde LP Masamvu. Losing a loved father is not easy at all. My prayer for the family is that they find the strength to keep going,” Machakaire said.
