GCB Bank Limited received a plaque from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on August 4, 2020, recognizing its significant contributions to combating Covid-19 in Accra and across Ghana. The award was presented during a ceremony at AMA’s City Hall, honoring organizations that partnered with the Assembly at the pandemic’s onset.

Recognition from AMA

Metropolitan Chief Executive Hon. Nii Adjei Sowah commended GCB Bank for its generous support, highlighting its role in bolstering the fight against Covid-19 in the Accra Metropolis. The plaque was accepted by Emmanuel Kojo Kwarteng, Head of Corporate Affairs, and Nana Yaw Kesse, Communications Manager, on behalf of the bank.

GCB’s Commitment to Society

In his remarks, Kwarteng expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing GCB’s role as Ghana’s largest indigenous bank with a focus on societal impact. He credited shareholders and customers for enabling the bank’s profitability, which supports such initiatives, and reaffirmed GCB’s commitment to future community efforts.

Key Contributions to Covid-19 Response

GCB Bank was the first financial institution to donate GHS 100,000 to the Covid-19 National Response Team via the Ministry of Health.

It also provided veronica buckets and accessories to the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and the Judiciary, alongside 40 jumbo water storage tanks to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for distribution to markets in Accra, Tema, and other regions.

Impact on Public Health

The bank’s contributions supported critical hygiene and sanitation measures in high-traffic areas, helping to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Ghana, where cases exceeded 44,000 by August 2020, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. GCB’s efforts aligned with broader national strategies to enhance public health infrastructure during the crisis.
