American tech giant, Google, has acquired Siemplify, an Israel-based cybersecurity startup specializing in security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR) services for enterprises. The deal, reportedly worth $500 million, marks Google’s first major foray into Israel’s cybersecurity ecosystem.

The acquisition is part of Google’s broader strategy to strengthen its cloud security capabilities and comes amid a global rise in cybersecurity threats. The deal is also Google’s first significant cybersecurity acquisition in Israel, though not its largest in the country. That title still belongs to the 2016 $1.1 billion acquisition of Waze.

Siemplify to Join Google Cloud Security Team

Siemplify, which employs around 200 people across Israel, the United States, and the UK, will now operate under the Google Cloud Security team. The company’s co-founders are expected to remain with the firm, helping to integrate its platform into Google’s existing cloud infrastructure.

Sunil Potti, Google Cloud’s Vice President and General Manager, said the acquisition will help customers better manage and automate their threat response. “Siemplify will become part of our cloud security team to help companies improve their ability to detect and respond to cyber threats,” he noted.

Cybersecurity Amid Rising Threats

The acquisition comes as Google follows through on its $10 billion cybersecurity investment pledge made to U.S. President Joe Biden in 2021. It also aligns with a growing need for robust cloud security solutions, especially as businesses adapt to remote work.

Siemplify has raised $58 million over four funding rounds, with Israeli VC G20 Ventures among its major backers.

What This Means for Israel

Google plans to make Siemplify the foundation of its cybersecurity operations in Israel, bolstering the country’s position as a global cybersecurity innovation hub.
