Sudan’s civil war has flared up again, driving tens of thousands from their homes as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) push deeper into South and West Kordofan.
The fighting between the army and RSF, now nearing three years since April 2023, is turning quiet towns into war zones and leaving civilians with no choice but to run.
Sudden Evictions in West Kordofan
RSF fighters have swept through areas like Babanusa, giving residents no time to prepare. Hanan Abdallah, forced out of her home, said: “They came and made us leave immediately. We couldn’t even put shoes on our children — they ran barefoot into the street.”
The RSF’s gains follow their takeover of army positions in Darfur last October, bringing them closer to key oil fields.
Siege and Hunger in South Kordofan
Kadugli and Dilling remain cut off, trapping hundreds of thousands without food, water or medicines. Those who escape face brutal journeys. Khamisa Othman described drinking from dirty ponds shared with animals and searching forests for anything edible.
World’s Worst Crisis
The United Nations calls Sudan the planet’s largest humanitarian emergency. Both sides stand accused of war crimes as infrastructure collapses and deaths mount. Control of Kordofan’s oil resources now adds fresh worries for regional security.
Millions caught in the violence have little hope as the fighting shows no sign of stopping.
