Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua escaped with minor injuries after a high-speed collision in Nigeria Monday morning that killed two others.
The accident happened on the Sagamu highway in Ogun State — the ancestral home region of the British-Nigerian boxer.
What Happened
The Federal Road Safety Corps said the Lexus SUV carrying five men lost control while overtaking and slammed into a parked truck. Two passengers died at the scene. Joshua and two others survived.
Eyewitness Adeniyi Orojo said Joshua was in the back seat. His security detail, travelling in a separate Pajero, arrived quickly to help.
Joshua’s Condition
Joshua was taken to hospital and is in stable condition. Videos shared online show him shirtless, dazed and wincing as bystanders and officials help him from the wreckage amid shattered glass.
Police Investigation Underway
Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed officers are at the hospital verifying identities and investigating the cause.
Joshua had been in Nigeria after his 19 December fight against Jake Paul. Just hours before the crash, he posted a light-hearted Instagram clip playing table tennis.
