The Central African Republic successfully completed its combined presidential, parliamentary, regional and municipal elections on Sunday 28 December, with observers praising the unusually peaceful and well-organised voting day.
Calm Atmosphere Across the Country
Election monitor Jeanne Aurélie Ngo Belnoun reported no significant incidents at polling stations nationwide. “Party agents and candidates conducted themselves responsibly,” she said, also commending the professionalism of election staff.
Touadéra Seeks Extended Rule
At the centre of the ballot is President Faustin-Archange Touadéra, campaigning for another term after a 2023 referendum abolished term limits and lengthened presidential mandates to seven years.
