The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has mobilized 4,000 personnel. This strategic move aims to guarantee a crime-free holiday season in the nation’s capital.
FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu ordered the massive deployment to ensure the safety of residents. Furthermore, the operation focuses on protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) before, during, and after the Yuletide festivities.
Command spokesperson Monica Ojobi disclosed the details in a statement released on Wednesday.
Strategic Deployment of Specialized Units
According to the Command, the officers come from various specialized tactical units. They will cover communities across the entire territory.
The deployment includes personnel from:
- The Arms Squad
- The Crack Squad
- The Counter Terrorism Unit
- The Female Strike Force
- The Agro Rangers
- The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) unit
Consequently, the Command has significantly tightened security around “soft targets.” These vulnerable locations include places of worship, recreational centers, shopping malls, and markets. Additionally, officers will secure motor parks and facilities housing critical national infrastructure.
Covert Operations and Surveillance
To proactively prevent security breaches, the Command has deployed undercover operatives. These agents will handle intelligence gathering and covert surveillance.
The statement noted that the Command is paying specific attention to identified “black spots.” These spots include uncompleted buildings, which criminals often use as hideouts.
A Call for Professionalism
Commandant Odumosu directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to ensure watertight security within their jurisdictions. He explicitly warned against operational lapses during the holiday period.
Addressing the officers, Odumosu emphasized the need for strict adherence to the rules of engagement.
He cautioned against intimidating or harassing residents. Furthermore, he stated there would be zero tolerance for the accidental discharge of firearms.
“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breaches; ensure your personnel comply adequately,” Odumosu stated.
Message to Residents and Vandals
The Commandant assured the public of a safe environment. However, he urged residents to play their part in maintaining peace.
“My personnel are ready to ensure a peaceful celebration, you have a part to play too by being proactive, vigilant, and ready to cooperate with law enforcement agencies for our collective good,” he said.
Residents should report any suspicious individuals or movements to the nearest security agency immediately. Conversely, Odumosu issued a stern warning to vandals and criminals. He noted that patrol teams are on high alert and will not hesitate to apprehend offenders who target public assets.
