England international Hannah Hampton and Italian star Gianluigi Donnarumma have been named the Best FIFA Women’s and Men’s Goalkeepers.
These prestigious awards recognize stellar individual seasons defined by major trophies and historic performances on the European stage.
Hampton’s Historic Year
For Hannah Hampton, this award caps off a phenomenal year for both club and country. The 25-year-old was instrumental in Chelsea’s domestic treble last season. She also played a defining role in helping the Lionesses defend their title at Euro 2025.
Hampton was an ever-present force, starting every match of the European tournament. Her composure under pressure was highlighted in the final, where England defeated Spain in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Her domestic form was equally imperious. Hampton featured in every match of Chelsea’s unbeaten Women’s Super League campaign. She secured the Golden Glove with an impressive 13 clean sheets.
“With club and country, we have achieved so much, and there is still much more for us to go and get,” Hampton said upon receiving the award.
She expressed gratitude to England manager Sarina Wiegman and Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor.
“Thank you for the belief in me this year,” she added. “We hear you cheering every single game loud and proud, and it helps push us on to go and get the win for you all.”
Donnarumma’s Champions League Triumph
On the men’s side, Gianluigi Donnarumma claimed the top prize following a career-defining season.
Before his summer transfer to Manchester City, the Italian goalkeeper was pivotal in guiding Paris Saint-Germain to their first-ever Champions League triumph.
His heroics in goal were previously recognized in September. Alongside Hampton, he was awarded the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Spectacular Goals Rewarded
The ceremony also celebrated the most breathtaking goals of the year.
- The Marta Award (Best Women’s Goal): This honor went to Lizbeth Ovalle. The forward, who now plays for Orlando Pride in the NWSL, was recognized for a stunning scorpion kick scored for Tigres against Guadalajara in Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil.
- The Puskas Award (Best Men’s Goal): The award for the best goal in men’s football was claimed by Santiago Montiel of Independiente. He secured the trophy with a spectacular overhead kick from outside the box against Independiente Rivadavia in the Argentine Primera Division.
