Venezuela Defies Airspace Threats, Allows US Flights

US deportation flights

The Venezuelan government has formally authorized the continuation of US deportation flights, ending days of speculation regarding the status of repatriation operations.

Despite recent threats from President Donald Trump concerning the closure of Venezuelan airspace, the administration of Nicolas Maduro confirmed on Tuesday that the program remains active. This decision ensures that the established twice-weekly schedule for returning Venezuelan nationals will proceed without interruption.

Clarifying the Confusion

This confirmation represents a sharp pivot from earlier statements. On Saturday, officials in Caracas alleged that US immigration authorities had unilaterally halted the operations. However, the narrative shifted rapidly by Tuesday.

Government officials clarified that the pause was not permanent. The resumption of these flights highlights a complex diplomatic workaround between Washington and Caracas, continuing despite the volatile political friction between the two nations.

Evidence of Ongoing Operations

To substantiate the claim that the air corridor remains open, the Venezuelan foreign affairs ministry released specific flight documentation.

  • The Operator: The filing listed US-based carrier Eastern Airlines.

  • The Timeline: The application was submitted on Monday.

  • The Mission: It requested landing permission for a specific arrival scheduled for Wednesday.

This release of administrative proof serves to publicly validate that the logistical channel for US deportation flights is fully functional.

A Surge in Repatriations

The volume of returns has increased dramatically in 2025. Following intense pressure from the White House, President Maduro recently reversed a long-standing policy that previously blocked the acceptance of deportees from the United States.

Since that diplomatic concession, the frequency of arrivals at the airport in Caracas has steadied. Operations are generally handled by US government contractors or Venezuelan state-owned aircraft. According to current data, over 13,000 immigrants have been repatriated through this specific corridor this year alone.
