Charles Born has secured over 40 film credits in just 12 months, transforming from a broke ex-radio host to a prolific Nollywood figure.
This achievement highlights a massive gamble that paid off. Only one year ago, the actor walked away from a stable broadcasting job. At the time, he had nearly zero financial safety net.
Today, his aggressive pivot to the screen serves as a case study in risk-taking within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
The Financial Gamble for Charles Born
The transition was abrupt and dangerous. Charles Born recently took to social media to break down the timeline of his success. He admitted that leaving radio wasn’t a calculated luxury; it was a leap of faith.
According to the actor, his bank account was practically empty when he handed in his resignation letter.
He revealed on Instagram: “I resigned completely from radio very broke with only 13k in my acc. And 1 year after we are here! OVER 40 FILMS.”
Consequently, this transparency has resonated with fans. It paints a picture of the harsh reality many creatives face before their breakthrough.
Overcoming Industry Silence
Success did not happen overnight. Before this current winning streak, Charles Born struggled to find his footing.
Previously, he attempted to juggle his duties as a radio presenter with acting pursuits. This split focus resulted in stagnation.
-
He attended countless auditions.
-
He sent monologues to directors.
-
The industry responded with silence.
The breakthrough only arrived in 2024 when he committed fully to acting. The shift in momentum was so drastic that even he struggles to believe it.
“If u told me in 2023 that one day you would google me and ‘Nigerian Actor’ would pop up I would have laughed you to scorn but look at God,” he stated.
What’s Next for the Actor?
Despite the high volume of work, Charles Born insists he has not yet arrived. He acknowledges the support of his manager and the wider film community but remains hungry for more.
He clarified his current mindset regarding his career trajectory.
“Have I gotten to the peak? NO! have I gotten that dream role? NO! but I grateful for the journey, the growth, the opportunities, the lessons and above all grateful for the gift of time,” he remarked.
Furthermore, he reflected on the emotional weight of his anniversary. He noted that his tears were no longer born of sadness, but of deep gratitude.
To conclude his celebration, he offered advice to others standing on the edge of a similar decision.
He wrote, “So to every dreamer don’t stop dreaming, chasing and believing because in the words of @realwarripikin ‘na who give up loose’.”
