Nasarawa State Bans Tyre Burning for New Year Celebrations

Nasarawa State Police have outlawed the burning of old tyres during New Year crossover events to protect lives, property and the environment.

Commissioner of Police Shetima Mohammed issued the order Tuesday, directing all area commanders and divisional officers to enforce it without exception.

Reasons for the Prohibition

The police listed key dangers:

  • Damage to roads and buildings from intense heat
  • Harmful fumes polluting the air
  • Blocked traffic from fires and debris
  • Risk of chaos and accidents at gatherings

Specific Instructions

  • Tyre repair shops: Owners must safely dispose of or lock away used tyres every evening
  • Parents: Warn children against joining tyre fires violators will be arrested and charged

Enhanced Security Measures

To guarantee a calm celebration, patrols and monitoring have been stepped up statewide. Citizens should report concerns immediately to the nearest station or emergency contacts.

The command urged everyone to mark the new year safely and responsibly.
