Actor George Clooney and human rights lawyer Amal Clooney have officially obtained French citizenship, along with their eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander.
Official records confirmed the family’s naturalisation this week.
Main Reason: Privacy for the Children
George Clooney told RTL radio on 2 December that France’s strict rules on photographing minors were the key factor.
“Here, no one snaps pictures of children. Paparazzi don’t camp outside schools. That protection is the top priority for us,” he explained.
The family still owns property in the United States, but their home in southern France is their favourite spot.
Inside Their French Estate
The Clooneys purchased a €9 million vineyard estate in Brignoles in 2021. Features include:
- Private vineyard
- Swimming pool
- Tennis court
- Large grounds where the twins can play freely
George describes it as their “farm” — the place where the family feels most relaxed and happy.
Another American Star Eyes France
Filmmaker Jim Jarmusch has also announced plans to apply for French citizenship. In an interview with France Inter, he said: “French culture runs deep in me. I would feel honoured to hold a French passport and have another home if I ever need it.”
The Clooneys’ choice shows why France attracts high-profile families looking for privacy and a European lifestyle.
