The boxing community is in shock after two key members of Anthony Joshua’s training team, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, lost their lives in a road accident Monday.
Joshua escaped with minor injuries.
The Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
The collision happened around 11:00 AM when the vehicle Joshua was travelling in suffered a tyre blowout during an overtaking manoeuvre. It then slammed into a parked truck on the roadside.
Ghami and Ayodele died at the scene.
Who Were the Trainers?

- Latif Ayodele: A trusted member of the boxer’s inner circle
Evolve Gym branches in Colindale and South Ruislip closed immediately as a mark of respect.
Joshua’s Condition
The former heavyweight champion was rushed to hospital for checks and is in stable condition. His promoter, Matchroom Boxing, confirmed he is under observation but faces no serious threat.
Tributes and Investigation
President Bola Tinubu contacted Joshua and his family to express condolences. Gyms in London have been filled with messages of support, with staff calling the loss a “devastating blow.”
