Central African Republic Rushes to Arm Voters with IDs

CAR voter card distribution

The clock is ticking for the Central African Republic (CAR). With general elections set for December 28, 2025, the nation is racing to finalize logistical preparations. Specifically, the massive CAR voter card distribution campaign has entered its final, critical stage.

This isn’t just routine paperwork. UN envoys view this specific election as a potential pivot point for a nation long plagued by instability. Voters are preparing to select a new president, lawmakers, and municipal leaders in a single sweeping event.

CAR Voter Card Distribution Reaches Remote Areas

While citizens in Bangui have been collecting documents since mid-December, the operation is far more complex in the north. In the Bamingui-Bangoran prefecture, logistics require military-grade support.

Consequently, MINUSCA, the United Nations peacekeeping mission, has stepped in to assist local authorities. Their involvement is essential for reaching towns like Ndele.

The UN mission is currently providing three layers of support:

  • Logistics: Transporting sensitive materials to hard-to-reach zones.

  • Security: Guarding distribution centers against potential threats.

  • Technical Aid: Helping staff verify voter data accurately.

Jean de Dieu Ndaka Pabandji, a senior election official in Ndele, reports high energy on the ground. He noted that residents have waited a long time for these credentials, resulting in robust turnout at collection points.

A New Generation Steps Forward

The 2025 vote marks a significant shift in demographics. First-time voters are flooding the centers to claim their stake in the country’s future.

Issaka Ali, an 18-year-old student from Ndele, represents this fresh wave of civic engagement. After verifying his birth certificate and photo, he successfully secured his ID.

Ali praised the system’s efficiency and expressed his enthusiasm. “I really want to vote,” Ali stated.

This surge in youth participation suggests a hunger for change. If the peaceful rollout of the CAR voter card distribution is any indicator, the nation is ready to embrace a stable democratic transition this Sunday.
