Asake Nairobi concert

A celebration of African music has ended in grief and demands for justice.

Afrobeats superstar Asake is calling for a thorough investigation after a stampede claimed a life during his recent performance in Kenya. The tragedy occurred on December 20, 2025, turning the Asake Nairobi concert into a crime scene.

On Monday, the singer broke his silence. He expressed profound heartbreak over the loss of 20-year-old Karen Lojore but also insisted that safety failures must be addressed.

“I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place… My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore,” Asake wrote on Instagram.

Disaster at the Entry Gate

The chaos unfolded outside the Nyayo National Stadium.

According to the Kenya National Police Service, a crush ignited as fans attempted to force their way through an entry point. In the ensuing struggle, Lojore was fatally injured.

Although security teams eventually stabilized the crowd allowing the show to proceed, the damage was already done.

In his public statement, Asake pledged two things:

  • Support: He will assist the victim’s family during this mourning period.

  • Action: He is demanding that venue organizers and security teams explain how this lapse occurred.

A Disturbing Pattern Emerges

This is not the first time an Asake Nairobi concert or tour date has been marred by crowd control issues.

The incident has drawn uncomfortable parallels to a 2022 tragedy in London. Two fans died following a massive crush at the Brixton Academy during the singer’s UK tour. Consequently, this latest death has reignited a fierce debate regarding safety protocols at high-capacity Afrobeats events.

The Show That Turned Tragic

The concert was intended to be a highlight of the singer’s continental tour.

Featuring British-Nigerian artist Gabzy as a co-headliner, the event drew thousands of fans to the capital. However, instead of celebrating the genre’s global rise, the music world is once again mourning a young fan who simply wanted to see her idol perform.
