The Commissioner of Police for Niger State, Adamu Elleman, has ordered a massive security deployment across the state.
This move aims to ensure peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations for all residents. Additionally, the Command has strictly reinforced the existing ban on the use of fireworks throughout the festive season.
Strategic Security Deployment
The directive comes in response to the increased movement of people and vehicles typical of the Yuletide period. Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed on Monday that the deployment covers all critical public spaces.
Key areas under high-visibility policing include:
- Religious Centers: Places of worship for Christmas and New Year services.
- Leisure Hubs: Recreation centers, amusement parks, and public squares.
- Transport Nodes: Motor parks and major highways across the state.
Commissioner Elleman has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to focus on intelligence-led patrols. Consequently, these measures will be supported by Operation Flush, a joint task force conducting township patrols and raids on known criminal hideouts.
Strict Enforcement of Fireworks Ban
To prevent fire outbreaks and property damage, the police chief emphasized that the ban on fireworks remains in full force.
“The use of fireworks is strictly prohibited to avoid fire incidents and wanton destruction of property,” the Command stated.
Authorities warned that the noise from explosives can be exploited by criminals to create panic or mask illegal activities. Therefore, parents and guardians are urged to caution their children against using pyrotechnics like “knockouts.”
Public Cooperation and Emergency Contacts
The Commissioner reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. However, he also stressed that security is a collective responsibility. He urged “Nigerlites” to remain vigilant and share credible information with the police.
In case of emergencies, the public can contact the control room at:
- 0703 196 4389
- 0807 539 1601
In his goodwill message, CP Elleman wished the Christian faithful and all residents a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2026.
