WEATHER

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released its weather forecast for the week. The agency predicts mixed atmospheric conditions across the country.

From Monday to Wednesday, Nigerians can expect varying patterns. These range from sunny skies in the north to isolated thunderstorms in the south.

Monday: Sunny Skies and Isolated Rains

The week begins with a dry outlook for the north. NiMet envisages sunny skies dominating the region throughout the day.

In the central states, residents can expect sunny skies with patches of clouds.

However, the southern region will experience a different climate. A cloudy atmosphere is anticipated. By the afternoon, there are chances of isolated thunderstorms in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Cross River.

Tuesday: Dust Haze Approaches

On Tuesday, visibility will drop in the north as dust haze sets in. This condition will cover states including Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Yobe.

The central region will maintain sunny skies with cloud patches.

In the south, the morning may start with cloudy skies. Later in the day, the weather will intensify. Isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over Delta, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.

Wednesday: Haze Intensifies and Rain Spreads

By midweek, weather patterns will become distinct. Dust haze will cover the northern region throughout the day. Meanwhile, the central region will experience a sunny but hazy atmosphere.

In the southern states, the morning will likely remain cloudy. However, as the day progresses, residents should prepare for isolated thunderstorms.

Moderate rains are expected to affect a wide band of states. These include Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, and Rivers.

Public Safety Advisories

In light of these predictions, NiMet has issued safety advisories:

  • Health: People with asthma should take precautions against suspended dust particles.
  • Motorists: The public is urged to drive with caution during rainfall due to slippery roads.
  • Aviation: Airline operators must obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning.
