NYSC Warns Against Social Media Misconduct

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a stern warning to corps members. The Scheme cautioned against creating or sharing content that portrays the organization or the nation negatively.

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the Director General, delivered the admonition on Friday. He addressed the 2025 Batch ‘C’ corps members at the Delta State Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku.

Zero Tolerance for Digital Indiscipline

The Director General made his stance clear. The Scheme will not tolerate indiscipline on digital platforms.

He emphasized that negative social media posts will attract strict sanctions. These penalties align with the NYSC’s bylaws.

Instead of harmful activities, Nafiu urged the youths to use their platforms positively. He wants them to promote the Scheme and Nigeria’s global image.

Safety and Compliance

Beyond social media, the DG highlighted physical safety. He advised new inductees to strictly avoid unauthorized journeys. Historically, these trips have posed significant risks to service members.

“Follow simple instructions and be obedient,” Nafiu charged the gathering. He also urged them to respect the cultural values of their host communities.

Camp Status Report

Mr. John Kwaghe, the Delta State Coordinator, provided an operational update. He revealed that 2,101 corps members have been deployed to the state. This figure comprises 944 males and 1,157 females.

Kwaghe noted that camp activities are progressing smoothly. Furthermore, he commended the high level of discipline demonstrated by officials and participants.

A Call for Patriotism

This directive reinforces the DG’s campaign for value reorientation. Earlier this week, General Nafiu addressed corps members in Rivers State.

He urged them to internalize the Scheme’s core values. He tasked them with letting patriotism, integrity, and efficiency guide their actions throughout the service year.
