The Federal Ministry of Education has launched a major digital learning program. It is called the Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes Initiative.
This nationwide project aims to expand access to quality education. It targets schoolchildren across Nigeria. The ministry described the initiative as a groundbreaking effort.
Democratizing Education
The program aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” It addresses long-standing challenges in the sector. These include teacher shortages and learning disruptions.
By streaming live lessons, the ministry hopes to democratize education. Consequently, they ensure that no child is left behind regardless of location.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa confirmed that implementation has begun.
“The rollout is underway,” Alausa stated. “Expansion is set to cover all classes from Primary 1 to Senior Secondary 3.”
Schedule and Platform
Currently, the platform hosts classes for JSS and SSS students.
- Platform: Lessons are delivered via Cisco Webex.
- Schedule: Classes run from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
- Teachers: Certified master teachers conduct the sessions.
A Wide Range of Subjects
The initiative covers a comprehensive curriculum.
For Junior Secondary Schools: Students will learn Basic Science, Mathematics, and English Language. Other subjects include ICT, Agricultural Science, French, and History.
For Senior Secondary Schools: The curriculum includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Economics. Technical subjects like Technical Drawing and Automobile Mechanics are also available.
Directives for States
The ministry has directed all state Commissioners for Education to act immediately. They must take specific steps to ensure participation.
First, they must nominate a State Focal Officer. This person will coordinate activities. Second, they must share program details with all school principals.
Furthermore, states must ensure schools are ready. Designated centers need basic ICT facilities and internet connectivity for seamless delivery.
How to Register
The ministry stressed that this program is inclusive. It is open to all public and private schools in the country.
However, there is a strict process. Registration must be conducted by school principals. They should use the official Inspire support channels to sign up.
