AFRICAN

From heartbreak at Anfield to comebacks in Munich, African players made headlines across the top leagues.

Premier League

  • Mohamed Salah (Egypt): Liverpool crashed 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest. Salah still stuck on 4 league goals – no strike since Nov 1. Reds drop to 11th after 6 defeats in 12 games.
  • Samuel Chukwueze (Nigeria): Came off Fulham bench and delivered the 84th-minute assist for Jimenez’s winner in 1-0 victory over Sunderland. Bassey & Iwobi started.
  • Lyle Foster & Hannibal (South Africa/Tunisia): Late subs for Burnley but couldn’t stop 0-2 loss to Chelsea.

Bundesliga

  • Nicolas Jackson (Senegal): On loan at Bayern from Chelsea – scored the fifth in a wild 6-2 comeback win over Freiburg after being 0-2 down.
  • Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso): Towering header for Leverkusen’s second goal in 3-1 win at Wolfsburg – his third goal in seven games.

Ligue 1

  • Ismaelo Ganiou (Burkina Faso): Scored the only goal as Lens beat Strasbourg 1-0 to climb to 3rd.
  • Morgan Guilavogui (Guinea): Red card in stoppage time after coming on for Lens.
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon): Opened the scoring in Marseille’s 5-1 thrashing of Nice – OM stay 2nd.
  • Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal (Morocco): Youngster broke deadlock early in Rennes’ 4-1 demolition of Monaco – Rennes jump to 6th.

Golden Boot watch: Antoine Semenyo (Ghana) leads Africans in the Premier League with 6 goals; Haaland still untouchable on 14.

Mixed weekend for the continent’s stars but plenty of decisive moments.
