Morocco made history on home soil Wednesday night, claiming both Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year titles at the 2025 CAF Awards in a dazzling double victory.
Hakimi: From PSG Hero to African King
Achraf Hakimi, the 26-year-old Paris Saint-Germain right-back, was crowned African Player of the Year, beating out Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen.
His season? Unforgettable. Hakimi powered PSG to five trophies, including their first-ever UEFA Champions League title. In the final against Inter Milan, he opened the scoring in a crushing 5–0 win.
Chebbak: Morocco’s First-Ever Women’s Winner
Ghizlane Chebbak, 35, became the first Moroccan woman to win African Women’s Player of the Year since the award began in 2001.
The midfielder outshone teammate Sanaa Mssoudy and Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade, thanks to a golden performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). She finished as top scorer and scored a stunner in the final.
A Night of Moroccan Pride
Hosted in Rabat, the ceremony celebrated a year of dominance for the North African nation. From Champions League glory to WAFCON triumph, Morocco’s stars proved they belong at the very top.
