The bitter breakup between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain has turned into one of football’s most expensive courtroom battles.
On Monday, both sides dramatically raised the stakes in France’s industrial tribunal, with combined claims now topping €700 million.
What Mbappé Wants (€260+ million)
The Real Madrid star, who did not appear in person, has expanded his original €55 million unpaid-wages claim into a €260 million+ demand. His lawyers argue:
- His last PSG contract should be treated as permanent, not fixed-term
- This would unlock huge severance pay and damages for “unfair dismissal”
- Additional compensation for alleged moral harassment and breach of good faith
His team insists: “He’s only asking for what any employee is legally entitled to.”
What PSG Wants Back (€440 million)
The French champions are hitting back hard, demanding €440 million from their former captain. Their biggest claim: €180 million for “lost opportunity” after Mbappé rejected a €300 million offer from Al-Hilal in 2023 and walked away for free.
PSG also accuses him of:
- Hiding his exit plan for almost a year
- Breaking a verbal agreement to waive bonuses when he was briefly frozen out in 2023
- Damaging the club’s reputation and finances
How It All Fell Apart
- 2022: Mbappé signs a massive new deal with an optional third year
- 2023: Refuses the extra year, putting PSG at risk of losing him for nothing
- Summer 2023: Briefly excluded from first-team training (“loft” treatment)
- August 2023: Returns after reportedly agreeing to give up some bonuses – an agreement his side now says never existed
PSG say they were robbed of a record transfer fee. Mbappé says he was bullied and is still owed money.
A ruling is expected in December 2025.
