Nigerian football talents are dominating the conversation ahead of the upcoming continental ceremony. Several key players have secured their places on the final shortlists for the prestigious 2025 CAF Awards.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially released the nominees on Sunday. Consequently, all eyes are now on Rabat, Morocco, where the gala will take place on Wednesday, November 19.
These awards evaluate performances spanning from January 6 to October 15, 2025. Nigeria’s heavy presence across multiple categories underscores the nation’s deepening talent pool.
Osimhen Headlines 2025 CAF Awards Men’s Category
Victor Osimhen continues to wave the flag for Nigerian excellence. The Galatasaray striker has been named a top-three finalist for the coveted African Player of the Year award.
However, the competition is fierce. Osimhen is up against Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi. This nomination continues a strong streak for Nigeria, following Ademola Lookman’s 2024 nomination and Osimhen’s own victory in 2023.
Super Falcons Stars Shine in Women’s Shortlists
Nigeria’s dominance is even more pronounced in the women’s categories.
Rasheedat Ajibade is a top contender for Women’s Player of the Year. Currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain, she was instrumental in leading the Super Falcons to a historic 10th continental title. She faces competition from Morocco’s duo, Ghizlaine Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy.
Furthermore, Chiamaka Nnadozie has been recognized in the Goalkeeper of the Year category. Now with Brighton & Hove Albion, Nnadozie was selected alongside South Africa’s Andile Dlamini and Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi. Her nomination reflects a season of consistent brilliance for both club and country.
Recognition for Rising Stars and Coaches
The 2025 CAF Awards also celebrate emerging talent. Shakirat Moshood, a forward for Bayelsa Queens, is a finalist for Women’s Young Player of the Year. She is competing against Senegal’s Adji Ndiaye and Morocco’s Doha El Madani.
In addition to individual honors, the Super Falcons are shortlisted for Women’s Team of the Year. They are nominated alongside Ghana and Morocco.
Finally, Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu is a key finalist for Coach of the Year. A panel of experts finalized these selections after a rigorous review of the season’s data.
