NCDMB Trains 10,000 in Oil & Gas Skills

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) just launched a massive training drive to prepare 10,000 Nigerians for top-tier jobs in the oil and gas sector.

Dubbed the “Oil and Gas Field Readiness Training Program,” this 2–3 year initiative targets critical skill shortages fueling the industry’s next wave.

Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe announced:

“We’re equipping Nigerians to lead and dominate the sector’s future.”

Skills That Open Doors

NCDMB analyzed Expatriate Quota applications, consulted PETAN, OPTS, PCTS, and reviewed PTDF reports to select 10 high-demand fields powering major upcoming projects.

Top 10 In-Demand Skills

  1. Sub-Sea Engineering – Wellheads, flowlines, sub-sea trees

  2. Underwater Welding – Deep-sea pipeline mastery

  3. Control & Automation – Rig ops, cementing, well controls
    4.. Helicopter Piloting – Offshore transport precision

  4. Seafaring Expertise – Vessel mechanics & electrical systems

  5. Production & Maintenance – Control room & crew operations

  6. QA/QC Engineering – NDT Level 1–3 certifications

  7. Geoscience – Seismic, geophysics, wellsite geology

  8. Digital Tech – AI, ML, IoT, Big Data, drones

  9. Cloud & Cybersecurity – Digital infrastructure protection

Law-Backed, Future-Proof

The program fulfills Section 10(1b) of the NOGICD Act 2010 Nigerians get priority in training and employment. Every operator’s Content Plan now depends on local talent—and NCDMB is building the workforce.

Who Qualifies?

You need an OND, HND, or BSc in Engineering, Science, Technology, or related fields. The training blends intensive theory with real-world rig experience.
