Cameroon Constitutional Council

The Cameroon Constitutional Council has dismissed all petitions challenging the October 12 presidential election. This pivotal ruling was delivered on October 22, 2025. It now clears the way for the announcement of final results. The council’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed. The verdict has immediately intensified national tensions. Incumbent President Paul Biya appears poised to win.

Cameroon Constitutional Council Rejects All 10 Petitions

The court reviewed 10 separate petitions. These alleged serious irregularities, including ballot tampering and voter intimidation. However, the council ruled that the claims lacked concrete evidence. This swift dismissal has drawn criticism. Opponents argue it silences legitimate concerns about the vote’s integrity. With no further legal options, fears of unrest are growing.

Candidate Tchiroma Vows Defiance

Prominent candidate Issa Tchiroma publicly rejected the court’s decision. He insisted he won the election. Tchiroma vowed to reject any other outcome. “If they choose to destabilize our peace… we’ll respond with the people’s resolve,” he declared. His defiant message has fueled sporadic protests. These are mainly in his hometown of Garoua in northern Cameroon. Unofficial results currently show President Biya, in power for decades, in the lead.

Protests Erupt as Nation Awaits Results

The court’s ruling has fueled unrest beyond Garoua. Frustrated opposition supporters have taken to the streets demanding transparency. Authorities are on high alert, fearing escalation. The Cameroon Constitutional Council has a legal deadline of October 26, 2025, to announce the official winner.

Political Future Hangs in the Balance

This election occurs in a tense political climate. Past votes have also been marred by allegations of fraud. President Biya’s decades-long tenure remains a source of deep division. While the council’s ruling is legally final, it risks worsening public distrust. As the deadline nears, Cameroon waits anxiously, hoping for a peaceful resolution.
