Nigeria’s Guinness World Record chef Hilda Baci has confirmed that the enormous pot used during her record-breaking jollof rice feat will not be sold or auctioned.
At a press event in Lagos, organized by Gino Nigeria, Baci explained that the cookware holds deep cultural and historic value.
“This isn’t just cookware—it tells a story of resilience and creativity,” she said.
Breaking a World Record
On September 19, 2025, Baci, in partnership with Gino Nigeria, cooked the largest portion of Nigerian jollof rice ever recorded—a massive 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lbs 9 oz).
The festival-like event in Victoria Island drew in thousands, from food lovers to celebrities. Guinness World Records officially confirmed the achievement, posting online:
“Largest serving of Nigerian jollof rice – 8,780 kg, achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Lagos, Nigeria.”
Why the Pot Matters
The custom-made pot, with a capacity of 22,619 liters, was central to the attempt. Using 200 bags of rice, Baci’s team filled it up to 80%, as weight restrictions capped the load at 20,000 kilograms including the pot.
Despite many offers to purchase it, Baci refused to part with the iconic cookware.
“This pot represents innovation and belief. It is history in physical form, and we want the next generation to see it,” she said.
Display Plans Underway
Rather than selling, the chef intends to refurbish the pot and showcase it publicly.
“We’ll restore it to its best condition, possibly in a museum or cultural center where people can visit and be inspired,” Baci explained.
Her goal is for the pot to serve as a permanent reminder of determination, creativity, and Nigeria’s culinary identity.
A Night of Celebration
The record-setting event attracted high-profile personalities, including Funke Akindele, Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun, and dancer Kaffy.
Influencers such as Veekee James, Tacha, Papaya, Enioluwa, Alex Unusual, and Spyro also graced the occasion, underscoring its cultural importance.
This triumph follows her famous 2023 cook-a-thon, where she cooked for more than 100 hours, cementing her role in showcasing Nigerian cuisine worldwide.
Carrying Forward Nigeria’s Food Legacy
By preserving the pot, Baci strengthens her legacy as an ambassador of Nigerian food culture.
Her jollof rice milestone is not just a Guinness record but also a celebration of community, culture, and the global recognition of Nigerian cuisine.
