Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro was released from DF Star Hospital in Brasília on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, a day after being admitted with vomiting, dizziness, and low blood pressure.
Hospital officials said his condition has stabilized but noted he will remain under close observation to track his recovery.
Early-Stage Skin Cancer Found
Bolsonaro had visited the facility earlier in the week for the removal of several skin growths. Tests later confirmed that two of the lesions were squamous cell carcinoma, a treatable form of skin cancer.
According to his physician, Dr. Claudio Birolini, the growths were removed surgically. “We’re confident about the procedure, but continued monitoring is essential to ensure there’s no recurrence,” he explained.
Health Challenges Resurface
While the former president’s symptoms have eased, doctors stressed the importance of regular checkups. Bolsonaro has faced recurring medical problems since being stabbed during the 2018 presidential campaign, an attack that resulted in multiple abdominal surgeries.
Legal Troubles Mount
Bolsonaro’s hospital release comes amid significant legal pressures. Brazil’s Supreme Court last week sentenced him to 27 years and three months for allegedly plotting a coup following his 2022 election defeat.
He has been under house arrest since August, accused of trying to influence court rulings through former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Political Fallout
The health scare has sparked concern among Bolsonaro’s supporters, who link it to years of stress and past injuries. Meanwhile, critics point to the ongoing corruption and election interference probes as evidence of accountability.
Despite his legal setbacks, Bolsonaro continues to play a central role in Brazil’s right-wing politics, with his health and court cases likely to shape his future influence on the country’s political scene.
