The Dangote Refinery will launch its much-anticipated free fuel distribution scheme on Monday, according to a statement from company spokesman Anthony Chiejina.
The initiative will begin in Lagos, the South West, the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States.
Fuel Price Reduction Across States
Alongside the free fuel rollout, Dangote has also slashed petrol prices. The new pump prices will take effect on Monday:
- N841 per litre in Lagos and the South West
- N851 per litre in Abuja, Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Delta States
Chiejina explained, “We are starting the free fuel distribution scheme on Monday. There will be a drop in price effective the same day when the distribution begins.”
Delay and Logistics Preparations
The scheme was initially scheduled to start in August but was delayed due to logistics challenges in China. As of this week, the refinery has received over 1,000 trucks in preparation for nationwide distribution.
More states are expected to benefit once additional trucks arrive in Nigeria, expanding the reach of the programme.
Boosting Logistics With CNG Trucks
In a separate statement on Thursday, Dangote confirmed it has embarked on a large-scale roll-out of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks. The company said this will strengthen logistics operations and reduce costs across Nigeria’s domestic fuel distribution network.
Despite recent price increases in the CNG market, Dangote reaffirmed its commitment to the plan: “Even though CNG prices doubled a week ago, that will not deter our 10,000 CNG truck roll-out this year.”
